What is Mental Performance?

There are a ton of ways to define and explain what Mental Performance is. Here are a couple:

Mental Performance is the art and science of overcoming obstacles and failure that prevent an athlete from becoming the best version of themselves.

Mental performance is the deliberate preparation of the mind so an athlete can compete with confidence, stay composed under pressure, overcome adversity, and perform at their best when it matters most.

As Mental Performance Coach, Dr. Tom Hanson, PhD says, "Performance=Potential - Interference." Removing the interference or the "x" that is blocking an athlete from becoming the best version of themselves.

Talent matters. But what separates good from great, and great from elite, is mental performance.

For athletes ready to learn and build a foundational Mental Performance System, Coach Dave Weinberg provides a proven blueprint to develop an elite mindset and mental toughness. He will take the time to explore with the athlete what his or her challenges (interferences) are and how he can help with actionable tools to attack and defeat the interferences.

He will unpack, unveil, and walk the athlete through the same mental performance actionable strategies used by elite NCAA D1 and professional athletes. Through this process, here are just a few things you will gain:

  • Awareness of what's holding you back—and how to reduce or eliminate interference
  • Clarity on your identity, standards, and goals
  • Proven tools to strengthen focus, confidence, be prepared for and be equipped to face adversity and overcome it, and consistency
  • Accountability to execute under pressure and build discipline over time

"The ideal performance state occurs when you are trusting, free of fear, and able to stay in the present moment."
Dr. Ken Ravizza, Legendary Sport Psychologist, Leading Pioneer in the Mental Performance arena

Most people say that the mental game for any sport is about 90% vs physical. Yet, very few athletes receive comprehensive, intentional, mental performance/skills training. Are you ready to change that?

There are no easy fixes or hacks with the mental game. It takes intentional effort, reps, and work ethic.

Just as athletes invest countless hours in the gym on strength training, speed work, or hiring a specialized coach for their sport to sharpen their physical performance skills so they can compete at a high level, investing time and effort into one's mental game is required just as much as the physical aspects of an athlete's sport.

Those that invest into their mental game over time, separate themselves from where they were personally and from their competition. They are more prepared to compete. They are more prepared to handle adversity and see pressure as a privilege and thrive in the big moments.

"Athletes don't rise to the occassion." They sink to their level of training when pressure is at its peak. This requires the athlete to invest and deposit mental skills training consistently just as they do with their physical preparation.

Maybe you feel like you have a good foundation of mental toughness but want to elevate your current mental game to give yourself an opportunity to excel at the next level (whether that is high school or college) when the competition and speed of the game accelerates.

Coach Dave will educate, equip, and energize you with the mental performance tools you need to prepare for your next level.

God-given talent can take athletes so far in their journey. BUT combine that talent with trained and locked-in Mental Performance Strategies and that talented athlete is now equipped with the advantages to give himself or herself the best chance to excel at their sport and improve their chances to compete at the next level...at a high level.
